For over 13 years, RLM has remained committed to its roster of clients through our work and services. As we forge ahead and celebrate the unparalleled growth we’ve experienced in 2021 and anticipate as the norm moving forward, we’ve decided it’s time for RLM to make an impact on the larger community of women and girls across the globe.
We are honored and excited to announce RLM’s Reading Nook Initiative. In an effort to support the advancement of girls globally, RLM is making a five year commitment to cultivate partnership with organizations who prioritize reading, are committed to ensuring all future female leaders have access to books and education and are purposeful about empowering girls with the freedom that comes from tucking in with a book. This five year commitment will result in RLM raising and/or donating $500,000 (half a million dollars) in literacy education and hard materials to girls across the globe. We are excited to bring education, access, freedom and ultimately, financial independence to thousands of future women across the globe.
The first organization we are partnering with is Room to Read. Their mission is simple, when you educate a child, you change the world. Their specific focus is to help children in low-income communities by bridging the gap in child literacy. They cultivate the environment for children to develop literacy skills and strong reading habits. They also focus their efforts on giving girls the tools they need to advocate for themselves. Even with Room to Read's mission impacting over 23 million children worldwide, one-third of the world's children still remain without access to education.
How are we going to support this organization? With a book drive! Not only will we be donating the books, but RLM is going to match our book contribution by donating $5 for every book donated. Our goal is to donate 200 books by the end of Q1 2022. With this donation we can support twenty children on their educational journey to both read and write for an entire year. We want to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education, with appropriate grade-level texts, a library budding with books, and a safe classroom with teachers helping them resist pressure to drop out for work or marriage. We're creating world change that helps historically low-income communities break the cycle of poverty by improving literacy rates and ensuring students get one step closer to graduation day and the lives they choose for themselves.
