Room To Read TOKYO Marathon Fundraiser
I’m fundraising for Room to Read because I believe that world change starts with educated children.
I am planning to run the TOKYO Marathon next March 3rd 2024. I decided to run it and raise money for the Room To Read Foundation. Room to Read envisions a world in which all children can pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities and the world.
I cannot align more with their mission! After being a Professor at Georgetown University for over 35 years, the idea of promoting education as a source of everything is the right thing to do. I am SUPER excited about running Tokyo since it is the last one I need to complete the 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors. I am proud to represent Room to Read. It would be an amazing "double satisfaction"... running for a cause I so deeply believe in... and getting the last one of the big 6 ... I am getting old (turning 65 next year) .. running a marathon is not getting any easier :))))
By focusing on literacy and gender equality in education, Room to Read transforms the lives of millions of children in low-income communities. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, they help primary school children develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.
Your donation to my page will be an investment in children’s futures. Thank you for your support!

With your help
We want to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education, with appropriate grade-level texts, a library budding with books, and a safe classroom with teachers helping them resist pressure to drop out for work or marriage. We're creating world change that helps historically low-income communities break the cycle of poverty by improving literacy rates and ensuring students get one step closer to graduation day and the lives they choose for themselves.
