My Room to Read Fundraiser
Our students are amazing readers and thinkers who are always taking action so this year we have decided to partner with Room to Read, an NGO that promotes literacy and education in many places around the world, with special attention to literacy and gender equality. Here are the steps to participate:
-
Talk to you adults about the READATHON. Decide if you would like to use paper or create an online fundraising page here. (paper attached to this letter) Note: Adults can partake in the Readathon too! Why not set an example at home?
-
Set a reading goal for Week7 and 8: it can be minutes, pages, chapters...
-
Share your reading goal with friends and family and see if they would like to contribute to the fundraiser.
-
READ! During weeks 7 and 8 and keep track of your reading.
-
During week 9, reflect regarding your goals and collect the donations on this team.
Room to Read envisions a world in which all children can pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their communities and the world.
By focusing on literacy and gender equality in education, Room to Read transforms the lives of millions of children in low-income communities. Working in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations and governments, they help primary school children develop literacy skills and a habit of reading, and support girls to complete secondary school with the relevant life skills to succeed in school and beyond.
Your donation to my page will be an investment in children’s futures. Thank you for your support!
Why your help matters
We want to ensure every child has access to a high-quality education, with appropriate grade-level texts, a library budding with books, and a safe classroom with teachers helping them resist pressure to drop out for work or marriage. We're creating world change that helps low-income communities break the cycle of poverty by improving literacy rates and getting one step closer to graduation day.
