I love that Room to Read's programs are sustainable. By working with the governments in ten countries with the highest number of illiterate people live, we can change that cycle of illiteracy in one generation! And, with a focus on gender equality we reduce the number of girls that are trafficked, pulled from school to work in the family business,or married off only to have a child when they are way to young. It increase their life expectancy, allows them to earn higher wages to help their families, AND brings a skill-set to their community that it may have been lacking for generations.
