Report on the "Be a Superhero" Fundraiser MAY 2019
Last May, the Chicago Chapter and its supporters gathered for its first fundraiser and raised $85,000 for students in Nepal. Because of donors like you, hundreds of children are benefiting today from new libraries, teacher librarian training and professional development for teachers to improve literacy instruction. Thank you!
Helping Education Endure
Throughout this pandemic, Room to Read has made one thing clear, they are not giving up on their students. Instead, our team has been working harder than ever before to achieve our mission.
Room to Read’s programs serve as an essential lifeline to the world’s most vulnerable children. With more than 1.5 billion children out of school, all children will be impacted, however, data suggests that the COVID-19 pandemic will most negatively affect students in low income counties and those in sub-Saharan Africa. Why? Because in these counties governments have been less able to provide remote learning opportunities and guidance to teachers to address student learning needs during the crisis
We need your help! To ensure that children in the most remote and low-income areas can continue learning, Room to Read is prioritizing interventions that don’t depend on Internet connectivity – which is largely unavailable in the areas they serve – but human connectivity. Their team is working to provide distance learning via channels that are most accessible to low-income children, including telephone, radio and TV broadcasts, and the distribution of hard copies of educational materials.
