Why this cause is important to us:

Literacy advocacy is very important to us because we believe it is the best way to make a positive and sustainable impact on the world. We have dedicated much of our high-school careers to promoting literacy in our community. Sydney has spent school breaks interning at the Waterside School in Stamford, CT, an elementary school which helps under-priviledged children attain the educational base and tools to embark on a life’s path of education and learning. She was able to fulfill her passion of working with children and saw the direct impact quality education has on a child's life. Similarly, during her visit to our sister school in Ghana, Ana was inspired by witnessing the value a quality library with an abundance of books can have on a child’s learning.

We began our literacy advocating project for a Mission 10, passion project, last year. We educated ourselves about Room to Read and quickly realized their mission was one we whole- heatedly believed in and wanted to support. Therefore we began supporting the “Library-Only” project: building a library, providing supplies/books, and training librarian at a Room to Read school in Vietnam. We have also continued our literacy advocacy on a local scale by creating a three-pronged visit with our Lower School to discuss our fortune of having the ability to read and to teach the children about our project. Additionally we have plans to visit our local refugee center and read Room to Read books with them.

May we kindly ask for your donation to our project? Any and all donations are very much appreciated and will have a meaningful impact on the children. The donation process is fast, easy, and secure.

If you have any questions about our journey, please do not hesitate to reach out! We will be updating our Story page on this website, as we develop our literacy advocacy journey.

Why Room to Read?

Many world problems can be addressed through one solution: education. Why? Because knowing how to read makes people safer, healthier and more self-sufficient -- yet nearly 800 million people are illiterate and two thirds are women and girls. That's why Room to Read's innovative model focuses on deep, systematic transformation within schools in low-income countries during the two most critical time periods in a child's schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls' education.

Just like Room to Read, I believe that world change starts with educated children. So, join me on my journey to change the world. Every contribution helps!
