Why am I stepping UP?  

Educating girls is widely acknowledged as the most powerful and effective way to address global poverty. Girls who finish secondary school earn more money, have smaller, healthier families, and are more likely to educate their own children - breaking the cycle of illiteracy within their families. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, girls in low-income communities faced many challenges to completing their education. We now face a global crisis, disproportionately affecting the world's most vulnerable children, particularly girls, as learning continues to be disrupted at schools. 

I will be raising funds for Room to Read's Girls' Education Program by WALKING 10km per day during the month of May!  It costs just $365 to keep a girl in school for one year and by raising $1,460 we will be helping 4 girls get the material and emotional support that they will need to succeed in school and in later life.

At the end of week one my fundraising has gone so well that I am going to increase my goal to $2,190 and aim to help 6 girls. 

At the end of week three my fundraising is still going extremely well so I am going to increase my goal to $2,555 and aim to empower 7 girls.

In this last week of May I am changing my goal one final time!  Thanks to everyones support I think we can HELP 10 girls reach their dreams.

USD$1 won’t get you very far in your local high street or cafe, but in a low-income community, it could change a life forever. It costs just USD$1 a day to keep a girl in school with the material and emotional support she needs to succeed in school and beyond. There’s no better way to honour women’s achievements than by investing in the next generation.
